His Ph.D. thesis (2013), titled Research on the synthesis and characterization of MeOxNy system thin films deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering, is the result of a collaboration program between UTBV and Minho University, Portugal. Dr. Cristea is co-author of 42 ISI-WOS papers (40 indexed, 35 in journals and 5 proceedings papers, 2 accepted articles) in peer-reviewed journals. The main journals where the papers have been published: Applied Surface Science , Vacuum, International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, Surface & Coatings Technology, Journal of Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A, Romanian Journal of Physics, Coatings (MDPI),Nanomaterials (MDPI), Results in Physics, etc. His research interests include thin film research and development, mainly by Physical Vapor Deposition, surface characterization (instrumented indentation, wear and tribology, adherence of thin films to substrates, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, photocatalysis, electrical, and optical analysis). He was a member of 8 international and national research grants. Moreover, he managed one Young Researchers grant at the Transilvania University of Brasov, one Sfera III Access Grant, and one postdoctoral scholarship, all awarded through competition. He was specialized in instrumented indentation at Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom. Dr. Cristea has worked with several types of thin films: TiC, ZrC, SiC, TiO2-Au, TiO2-Ag, TiCu, TiAl, a-C:H, LaB6, MoS2, TiB2, etc.
